Max Gano has extensive background in data management, including his role as Director of Data Technologies during a $2B IPO and Chief Data Architect for a Fortune 500 Bank. He is passionate about increasing the maturity of data management and governance practices as critical capabilities for organizations seeking sustainable prosperity and growth. More recently, as Principle Data Strategist for the Data Governance Institute, he worked with a range of major corporations and industry thought leaders to formulate successful strategies for governing and managing information and the operational processes required to achieve those objectives. Max recently founded DATAVERSITY DGO to bring best practices in governing data along with a collaborative TeamSpace and professional mentoring to large and mid-size companies around the world.
Max first introduced federated data governance methodology during his work with financial services organizations. “Strongly integrated lines of business simply could not implement sweeping changes to either their processes or their systems simply to comply with the ideals of an enterprise-driven governance program. We only made progress once we accepted the essential nature of this federated, though highly effective, system of authority within each line of business. We began introducing incremental changes driven by opportunities created when those systems or processes were going through change. We began embedding governance practices directly into existing project cycles. This finally moved from agreeing in principle to acting in practice.” Max has since applied the same approach in other industries including healthcare and major international disaster relief organizations such as World Vision.
