The International Association for Information and Data Quality has published a new industry report entitled, “The State of Information Quality and Data Governance — 2016 Industry Survey & Report; Understanding how Organizations Manage the Quality of their Information and Data Assets and Compensate IQ Professionals.” The report was written by Elizabeth Pierce, C. Lwanga Yonke, and Mohammed Younus Ahmed, and it is available for download here.

Yonke wrote in the IAIDQ Information/Data Quality Professional Open Community group on LinkedIn, “Here are two important findings: (1) ‘Reducing risk and assuring compliance’ was chosen by 46% of survey respondents as the main focus for their organization’s data governance and data quality efforts. ‘Increasing Revenue’ came in second (20%) followed by ‘Reducing Costs’ (16%). (2) Sixty-nine percent (69%) of survey participants stated that data quality in their organization has improved either significantly or very significantly over the last two years. However, nearly half rated the quality of the data in their organization as Fair (46%) with another third (34%) rating it as Good. Only 8% of survey participants assessed their organization’s data quality as Excellent.”

The report description adds, “This report details the findings of a survey conducted by a team of researchers from the UALR-IQ Program and IQ International during early spring 2016. The purpose of the study is to better understand current trends in how organizations are governing their data, managing the quality of their information, and compensating the individuals who perform these services. The results presented in this report are based on the responses of 160 individuals who completed the survey. These individuals represent a wide range of staffing roles, functional areas, organizations, industries, and geographic regions.”
